Spanning over three days and bringing in over 100 artists and 100,000 people Coachella is considered the crown jewel of music festival. I was honored to be tagged to provide coverage of Coachella for Mxdwn.com in 2019. The partnership resulted in their most successful Coachella weekend to date, giving them thousands of impressions and peace of mind as I worked throughout the day to have articles ready for edit moments after the festivities of each day ended.

While not attending in person, the team at Mxdwn.com has historically relied on me to provide live coverage of the Grammy’s to produce news stories for the site. On top of providing basic news updates, I have been called upon to critically analyze the events, performances, and host choices of the past two years of Grammy awards ceremonies.

Covering a show at the bowl is a unique undertaking. While most venues do not place requirements on press beyond sign in. Hollywood Bowl write-ups demand meticulous fact checking and must be published the night of the show. My write-ups surrounding the Hollywood Bowl have become some of the most successful posts of both my career and the sites that sent me.

I have been fortunate to cover a number of my favorite artists at the legendary Hollywood Palladium. The historic status of this venue has led to incredible shows and allowed me to produce some of the most rewarding writing of my career.

Growing from the brainchild of Tyler, The Creator Camp Flog Gnaw has become one of the world’s premier hip-hop festivals. I was sent by Mxdwn to cover their biggest year yet and generated multiple news stories while providing critical analysis of the performances, and utilized my background in event production to comment on the logistical elements of the festival.

Formerly known as the San Manuel Amphitheater, Glen Helen has become one of the go-to venues for rock and metal legends the world over. My coverage of events at this venue has included festivals like HARD Summer and international alt-metal sensations Tool and System of a Down. The latter article resulted in a radio interview with 96.7 KCAL Rocks!.

One of my all time favorite venues, this building features an iconic checkered floor and an eye catching Hieronymus Bosch mural adorning both walls. A menagerie of performers has given me the opportunity to see and cover everyone from Giraffage to Vince Staples.

While primarily known as one of the world’s greatest museums of contemporary art, The Broad occasionally plays host to musicians in their “Oculus Room” and courtyard. I was sent to cover their “Fluxus Night” which featured a number of boundary pushing avant garde artists, and specifically highlighted the unique and enthralling nature of the venue in conjunction with the mind bending sounds of the evening.

Adult Swim premiered their first ever music festival in early October 2018 at The Row in Downtown Los Angeles. I was sent to provide critical coverage of the events, often staying onsite for over twelve hours, and I quickly generated reviews of each festival day with minimal delay.

The recently remodeled Mayan Theater has quickly become a must see venue in Los Angeles for its accessible layout and eye catching design. I’ve covered a number of popular indie acts at this venue, including The Mountain Goats, Perfume Genius, and Big Thief.

Though The Observatory lies well outside of Los Angeles, its consistently impressive roster of artists occasionally demands that writers travel outside of their comfort zone. Having covered shows at both the Constellation Room and main room, I’ve become intimately familiar with the lone star of a venue.

Cloak & Dagger is an underground club that believes in one thing above all else, the color black. I provided coverage for their inaugural festival in 2017 and created multiple articles worth of news stories and traditional coverage, all dedicated to the surprisingly vibrant goth scene in LA.

This unconventional venue often hosts similarly unconventional artists ranging from noise rock to dark ambient. I consider myself lucky to have been tagged to cover a range of exciting artists at this macabre location.

HEALTH

While The Echo is a smaller venue, both it, and its sister venue The Echoplex, have played host to some of the most innovative acts in music today. Having covered shows for both Mxdwn and NaturalMusic at The Echo, I’ve become deeply familiar with both the venue and surrounding areas.

Recently restored as part of an ongoing effort to revitalize Downtown Los Angeles the Belasco has recently featured a swath of high profile hip-hop acts like Dr. Octagon and Pusha-T. The venue is quickly becoming one of the hottest mid-size venues in Los Angeles.

Cold Waves is a multi-city small festival that took place at the brand new 1720 venue in downtown Los Angeles. A throwback to an earlier time, this festival showcased both modern and nostalgic renditions of industrial music.

A small but rising venue in the outskirts of Downtown Los Angeles, The Regent is quickly becoming one of the most punk friendly venues in LA. I’ve been lucky to cover a number of rising artists on their way to stardom at some of their early shows at The Regent.

Power Trip

Copeland

A historic venue located mere minutes from the beach, The Majestic is comparable to more well known venues like The Fonda and The Ace Hotel in Downtown LA. Its eclectic rotation of artists has allowed me to cover everything from Noise Rock to Synthpop.

Knocked Loose

The Bootleg Theater is a small venue located on the outskirts of Los Angeles, and while it is more isolated than most, the venue makes an exciting case for itself with unique stage setups and inviting floor arrangements.

This historic building has become an outlier on the busy LA touring circuit, and has found numerous mid-sized bands and small promoters rushing to play beneath its iconic rafters in the always under recognized Highland Park.

No Age

Similar to the Regent, the Teragram Ballroom is an excellent venue for catching a band as they are on the cusp of stardom. Primarily playing host to punk rock, it’s a great place to to jump in a mosh or cover a show.

Knocked Loose

IDLES

One of the more unique venues in LA, the Resident is usually a better place to grab a drink than to catch a show. Watchful eyes will notice the occasional avant garde artist on the calendar, and the wise will swing in to catch an excellent show.

Blanck Mass

Careful observers may recognize this iconic LA church from the music video for My Chemical Romance’s breakout hit “Helena.” Since that fateful moment, the sanctuary of this historic building has served as a venue for a number of intimate artists including Hozier, Connor Oberst, and Mount Eerie.

Mt. Eerie

A small but rising venue that is usually found serving drinks rather than hosting shows, the Tavern is a haven for the leftovers from Ventura’s once vibrant punk rock scene.
